Family Fun In FrankenmuthMichigan's Little Bavaria Has a lot to Offer Parents and Kids
Frankenmuth Michigan is an excellent place to visit any time of the year.
Frankenmuth is nestled along the Cass River near the palm of the mitten. It has a homey, small-town atmosphere found in many other Michigan villages, but Frankenmuth has done an excellent job carving its own niche. Time spent in Frankenmuth is a unique and fun experience all will enjoy. Quaint Shops to Spend Time and MoneyIf there is one thing there is plenty of in Frankenmuth, it’s shopping. Unique little stores line the main street and spread into the surrounding neighborhood. You can get everything from cheese to fudge and candles to sweaters. A newer collection of shops, Frankenmuth River Place, has over 35 stores and attractions to delight all who visit. It’s designed as a Bavarian village lending even more credence to Frankenmuth’s claim of Michigan’s little Bavaria. Family Style Dinners or Light LunchesWhether someone wants to eat a big meal, or a light lunch, Frankenmuth can provide what is needed. There are numerous places to grab a bite to eat. There’s Tiffany’s, a bar and grill that has an outside patio for those nice summer days. There’s also the Lamplight Lounge to get a good quick meal. But Frankenmuth is known for their family style chicken dinners. There are two restaurants across the street from each other that provide all you can eat family style dinners, Zehnders of Frankenmuth and the Bavarian Inn Restaurant. Both are known for having chicken as the main course, but other meats are available. Zehnders serves over a million chicken dinners annually and the Bavarian Inn isn’t far behind. After a big meal, it’s nice to sit back and take in the sights. Take a Ride on the Not So Wild SideOne of the unique ways to see the beauty of Frankenmuth is the horse drawn carriages. There are two spots to catch these splendid little coaches pulled by majestic horses, both on Main Street. The rides range from 15 minutes to 30 minutes and wind through the Frankenmuth side streets. For a lazy trip in an authentic paddlewheel boat, visitors can catch the Bavarian Belle at Frankenmuth’s River Place. The ride takes passengers down the Cass River and back again. The captain gives some history of the buildings and places seen from the boat. This is a nice way to see the town, learn about the area's history, and relax. Frankenmuth’s HospitalityMany people have so much fun in Frankenmuth, they want to stay for a while. There is a selection of hotels and motels to choose from, depending on one’s budget. There is also a selection based on what activities are desired. The Bavarian Inn Lodge is a mammoth complex on the Cass River. Like most other businesses in Frankenmuth, it’s built with a Bavarian theme. Even the employees dress the part. It has five swimming pools, an indoor mini golf course and much more. For some more wet fun there is Zehnder’s Splash Village. It’s a hotel with an indoor water park. Zehnder’s Splash Village is located right next to Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland, so the guests are treated to Christmas lights at night all year round. Michigan’s Little BavariaThe settlers that started the village were missionaries from Bavaria and the Bavarian influence is reflected throughout modern Frankenmuth. It is a beautiful and inviting town that welcomes all. From the wooden covered bridge over the Cass River to the Glockenspiel over the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, we are called to come in and stay a while. Hang out all day, or maybe two. Or maybe more.
