The Detroit Omni has been designated a four diamond hotel. Nonetheless, there are many things about this facility that would make one question this award.

The Omni Detroit Hotel is located just a mile or so from downtown Detroit. It is within minutes of most downtown attractions including the Renaissance Center, Fox Theatre, Ford Field, Comerica Park and Greektown, and a block or so from UAW's International Headquarters.

Hotel Rooms at the Omni Detroit Hotel at River Place

Guests at the Omni Detroit can select from various room choices:

  • Standard Rooms - All accommodations come standard with two queen or a king bed.
  • Deluxe Rooms - Deluxe rooms offer more space, views of the riverfront and high ceilings.
  • Suites - The Omni Detroit offers a variety of suite choices. Suites include separate sleeping quarters and other options such as additional bedrooms and baths, wet bar, riverfront views and fitness equipment.

Hotel rooms at this facility are quite spacious. Although the hotel has made some updates to the decor in the rooms (new bedding, carpet, furniture, etc.), major renovations are still needed. For example, the bathrooms have worn wallpaper, outdated gold fixtures and lighting. Additionally, the windows in the facility are very old resulting in a cold draft.

Other Information About the Omni at Detroit River Place

The layout of the Omni Detroit is different from most hotels. To get to the lobby, one comes in the front door and then up a few stairs. There is no traditional front desk; instead there are two working desks for staff on one side of the lobby. The lobby offers a wonderful view of Detroit's riverfront along with a cozy fireplace. As with the rest of the facility, the lobby and hallways are in need of renovation. There is floral carpeting, outdated gold chandeliers and worn striped wallpaper throughout.

Fender's Tavern, a casual dining restaurant and bar, occupies the lower level of the hotel. Many guests at Fender's are smokers and thus the smell of cigarette smoke is quite prevalent on the lower level and first floor of the facility.

Room rates at the Omni Detroit vary considerably depending upon date of arrival. Nonetheless, on average a standard room runs around $120-$150 per night. The Omni also offers both banquet and meeting facilities.
