Located in the northwest quarter of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, the city of Cadillac has outdoor attractions, resort lodging, seasonal events, downtown shopping and a wide variety of dining options. The small town in northern Michigan offers numerous opportunities for enjoyment in every season. Activities on Lake Mitchell and Lake CadillacThe presence of two lakes means lots of opportunities to enjoy water-related sports and activities in northern Michigan. Whether it is shore fishing, boating or just taking a sunset stroll, Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac both provide hours of fun for those who enjoy the water. Kenwood Park on Lake Cadillac is a great beach for swimming (a lifeguard is on duty) and also includes picnic facilities, volleyball, Frisbee golf and a boat launch. Michigan State Park Camping and Nature TrailsMitchell State Park on M-115 is a popular destination throughout the summer. Located on Lake Mitchell, it has a canal for easy boat launching and access to both lakes. Reservations are strongly recommended (231-775-7911) for this popular northern Michigan camping destination. Nearby is the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center. Operated by the Department of Natural Resources, this center offers both a two mile hiking trail and a visitor’s center with hands-on activities that overview the history of hunting and fishing in Michigan. Admission requires a Michigan State Park Motor Vehicle Permit. Downtown Cadillac Shopping and Dining DistrictCadillac has a pedestrian-friendly downtown with unique shops, restaurants and other services. Parking is free and this summer the city is undertaking a significant redevelopment project of the downtown area to making parking even easier. Fun places to eat downtown include Shay Station, a café and coffee house that specializes in hearty sandwiches and soups. Hermann’s is a local institution and a favorite stop for a quick bite to eat in the deli or a more formal meal in the restaurant. The deli also offers an excellent assortment of handmade pastries and other baked goods each day. Both are located on S. Mitchell Street. Hotels and Lodging In Northern Michigan In addition to camping at the state park, there are many diverse lodging accommodations throughout the Cadillac area. These include national hotel chains as well as locally owned facilities. There are small lodges, larger resorts with golf courses, resorts on the lakes, and cabin rental facilities. Regular Events and Festivals Throughout the Year in Cadillac Cadillac has several festivals and events each year. During the summer months, there are regular outdoor concerts in the downtown pavilion as well as the Arts in the Park in July. Cadillac celebrates the Chestnut Festival each fall and First Night on New Year’s Eve. The American Snowmobile Festival each winter is a large event that draws visitors from throughout the USA. Cadillac is a great up north destination when looking for fun in northern Michigan. With outdoor activities, events, shopping, dining and water sports, there is sure to be something for everyone.
